It’s not just Australians who have fallen in love with Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall’s hilarious Colin From Accounts—the series has found a dedicated audience of global fans who can’t get enough of the show’s uniquely Australian humour and setting.
Following Ashley (Dyer), Gordon (Brammall) and their stray-turned-adopted dog Colin, the series takes place in and around Sydney’s trendy Inner West, casting a global spotlight onto areas’ distinctive buildings and architecture.
Where was Colin From Accounts filmed?
Colin From Accounts captures the artistic and laid-back energy of Australia’s inner city suburbs through its carefully selected filming locations.
Despite fans commonly mistaking the series’ cool urban setting for Melbourne’s hip inner city suburbs, Colin From Accounts was actually filmed on location in Sydney’s Inner West.
Sydney’s Inner West Filming Locations
The Inner West suburbs of Marrickville, Leichhardt, Camperdown, Redfern and Ultimo all play host to the Colin From Accounts cast and crew, with many of the suburb’s iconic buildings featuring in the show.
For example, the hospital where Ashley works is actually Sydney University Business School, while Old Gladesville Hospital doubles as Colin’s vet and the clinic where Gordon goes for his neurologist appointments.
Brammall and Dyer, who not only write but star in the show, specifically chose the area for its unique architectural features.
“Industrial but old houses, Victorian terraces, right next to warehouses. The flat paths are great for filming. It’s a very interesting area,” Brammall told Confidential.
Where Is Gordon’s House Located?
With its distinctive green garage door, Gordon’s brick terrace house is one of the most recognisable buildings from the show.
The real house—an impressive three bedroom, three bathroom property with a solar heated pool and chef’s kitchen—is perhaps a little more luxe than its fictional counterpart, selling for A$2.9 million in 2010.
You can see the exterior of the property for yourself at 33 Hopetoun Street in Camperdown.
Can You Visit The Real Echo Park Brewery?
Gordon’s Echo Park Brewery found in its real life home within the airy, industry space of the old Stockade Brew Co building on Marrickville’s Cadogan Street.
While the real brewery has since shut its doors, Marrickville locals might have recognised the same oak barrels, 10-metre long bar and green banquet seating on the screen.
With a strong brewery culture, its understandable as to why Brammall told Confidential that the area “just made sense as the setting for the brewery.”
